Curriculum Intent

At Carlton, we offer a broad and balanced curriculum that allows pupils to develop the skills to move onto the next stage in their learning.

The curriculum incorporates the statutory requirements of the national curriculum, supported by carefully planned learning opportunities and real life experiences that meet the needs of each pupil. Our curriculum is underpinned by our vision, ethos and the promotion of British values. The social, moral, cultural and spiritual development of each pupil is paramount and is woven into every aspect of life at Carlton.

Our curriculum is broad, engaging, takes learning beyond the school gates and secures high quality outcomes for our learners and prepares them for their futures. It is designed so the children have the opportunity to develop both their academic and creative skills.

The design of the curriculum provides first hand, meaningful learning experiences. It enables the children to develop their interpersonal silks, build resilience and become creative and critical thinkers.

We provide many opportunities for children to challenge themselves and encourage them to see the mistakes they make as vital way to learn. We believe that children should be able to effectively communicate, they should be curious, ask questions and possess a thrust for learning.

Our curriculum promotes the British values of democracy the rule in law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance. These values are evident in our curriculum and in daily life across the school. Carlton is proud to say that it is a Rights Respecting school where children’s rights are promoted in all aspects of school life.

At Carlton we place equal emphasis on the academic subjects and the Arts and ensure that all children have the opportunity to excel in both areas.
