The first five years of a child’s life are fundamentally important in their development. Their early years should be fun, active, happy, nurtured and secure—all the elements that will contribute to their development and ultimately shape their future.
At Carlton Primary School our aim is to give every child the best opportunities and support to thrive and develop as learners.
The open-planned layout of our Nursery and Reception classes allows children to immerse themselves in their play-based learning and encourages a workshop-style ethos. Children can move freely between outdoor and indoor areas to access the many activities available across the different areas of learning. The early years foundation stage (EYFS) sets standards for the learning, development and care of your child from birth to 5 years old. In Carlton the EYFS covers Nursery, Reception and the first half term of Year 1. The EYFS focuses on different areas of development and learning, such as:
- Personal, emotional and social development
- Physical development
- Communication and language
- Understanding the world
- Expressive arts and design
Children in the EYFS learn by playing, problem solving, exploring and experimenting. They are encouraged to be active, think creatively and critically and to be curious about the world around them.
Our (EYFS) provision considers and addresses each individual child and their needs. They are taught by fully qualified staff in a safe and secure learning environment.
