School council

“Hi my name is Dunia Hayderi. I am a Year 6 student. I am currently part of the Carlton School Council. Each year an election takes place for children in Years 2-5, where children in those years can participate and all they need to do is write a short explanation on what they would do for their class by writing a manifesto. A meeting will be held every half term for the chosen representatives to discuss their class opinions and point of views of how we can change the school in a better way. Each class will nominate a girl and a boy to become their class’s school councillors. Votes will be counted by the Year 6s and overseen by the chair governor. The results will be announced in assembly. Year 5 school councillors will continue on as the Year 6 school councillors, this is why Year 6s don’t have a vote.

Thank You!”

The new council meet always twice per half term and if necessary more. There is a Chair, Vice Chair and Treasurer. Minutes are taken at each meeting and shared with the children in year 1 and below.  The council also manages a budget of £1,000 per year and decide how it will be spent. In past years they have also meet with the Governing Body, spoken to visitors and participates in school council debates.

The pictures of the new school council will be displayed soon in the main foyer next to the office.
