Information on the Community Hub Proposal

We want to hear your ideas!

Camden Council has put forward a proposal to close Carlton Primary School and merge with Rhyl Primary School under a single leadership team, keeping both sites under school management providing educational services.

The proposal is that children in Nursery up to Year 1 will be based at the Carlton site and children from Year 2 to Year 6 will be based at the Rhyl site. We want to build on the strengths of both schools to ensure there is an excellent school at the heart of the local community.

As well as ensuring that the school will continue to provide an excellent education to our children, this proposal provides an opportunity to strengthen the community and better meet the needs of local families.

We are working with a range of Camden Services and other local organisations to help us achieve a vision of an education and community hub across the two sites. We already have some ideas about what this could look like and have identified the following themes as areas to consider.

  • Improving educational outcomes at key transition stages – in particular, extending our nursery offer to two-year-olds and better supporting the transition from primary to secondary school.
  • Delivering early intervention, health support, parenting support and family learning for families with children aged 0 – 5.
  • Providing family and adult education services
  • Improving crime prevention services
  • Providing community facilities including space to hire, conference facilities etc

We want to hear from as many people as possible to understand what families would like to see as part of the proposal to build an education and community hub across these two sites – whether there are themes missing and which activities you would like to see under each of these themes.

We will be posting here how to share your views
